Hello all, SHR users and devels!
Didier "ptitjes" and I met yesterday to speak about the status of SHR, and also to drink some beers (or maybe was it the other way around, we weren't able to remember that this morning...).
What we ended up with was that we are really happy about what SHR has become! "SHR is great!" was the exact phrasing... and so we'd like to tell you all, users (for how many new stuff you suggested/tested/commented), developers (for all the time you took to add new stuff) and maintainers (for all the time you took to keep that new stuff in running well), on behalf of all the community: Thanks!
To all of you, in order to insist a bit, we really would like to say "Thank You!" so much and tell you how proud we are of such a successful community effort!
So here we are now: we have a testing release up and running. Will we stop adding some new stuff? Of course not! The unstable is made for that and, as before, we need you, and all the community, to speak up and tell us what will be the future of SHR. So we started a list of telephony features missing in SHR, and we'd like everybody to contribute to that list...
This list is here merely in order to be able to talk about what we're able to do with the current status of the distro, and what we would like to do in the near future. Don't be afraid to give us your crazy thoughts here, any idea is good as it's a wishlist. Given that list, we will be able to priorize subjects, build teams to handle these subjects, then implement the solution.
Here is what Didier "ptitjes" and I achieved to write down: (before beers made us speak about other stuff, notably about weird music... :-P)
Thank you again folks! And keep up the great work,
Didier & Julien.

- Sending MMS messages
- Advanced message composition with embedding of picture, sound, video (huh!), ascii porn (double huh!)
- Managing PIM data
- Import contacts from diverse source (desktop, directories, web directories search, bluetooth, SIM to PIM...)
- SIP voice calls
- A rule manager UI (which ringtone for which contact/group, which incoming calls to block, in fact pretty much all that is related to events directed from the framework to the user, and how to react to them on a rule basis...)
- A "distro" way to allow the users to build themes for SHR and commit them on a global theme repository, these themes handling all the necessary stuff for the whole phone (GTK, e, illume...)
- ... your ideas here ... (mandatory)
Thank you again folks! And keep up the great work,
Didier & Julien.
What im missing is automagicly the moko dont fall to sleep when i use tangogps for example
and if i play music with a playlist, the screen could get turnd off, but the system shouldnt go down.
sorry for my bad english
Heck, we NEED an email application. I mean - were using an opensource phone for geeks and we dont even have a decent mail application?
sC
* good phone log
* fast way to type and save a new phonenumber and send sms /call to confirm the number
* more grps info/setings/
I'll come up with some more
Hello all !
I agree that SHR is a really good distro, unfortunately, the telephony part is still embryonnary !
-A first good start would be to add some kind of widget stuff, or just another task bar for keeping track of miss call, answer machine message, or sms...
-I tried to let the history call launched all the time, but it doesn't seem to refresh at all, so you have to restart it to see miss calls !
-adding in a more complete way PIM (addition of photos with contacts...)
-SYNCHRONISATION ! for contacts, schedules, sms (I like to keep track of them...)
-I don't know if I'm stupid/not used with enlightenement, but I really don't know how to modify it ! => where is the doc for the version in SHR ?
-The call app is not very stylish, even if it-s not a big trouble, it could be good to make it look like the main screen of SHR ? (which is great btw ! :) )
-And... that's it for dreamy suggestions !
see ya !
Isn't it a good time to think about real user account? It is linux at the end. What kind of linux runs everything as root?
shr needs an webserver, maybe like
http://www.cherokee-project.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherokee_HTTP_Server
that supports php and python.
Why:
- set various setting of the phone.
- have a wizard that you can run after flasing to set many setings
- stream music..
- easy to copy and upload music files and share with friends
- send sms
- access phone log, pim +++ for easy cut and paste and editing
- status page of the phone
++++ other people can add their ideas +++
What I miss, are two apps:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/kdepimpi/
Nice calender and addressbook plus SIP client
I'd love to have the messages app to know what the name of my contact is, I always have to go figure it out in the contacts app and I have over 100 contacts in my SIM so I'm having a hard time finding who it is.
Also scrolling through the contact list is quite hard (usability bug ?)
It would also be nice but I guess it's almost impossible to have handwriting recognition.
Also, auto randr turning when you turn your moko would be awesome.
The system shouldn't go in suspend when certain apps are on (like tangoGPS or pythm).
A better wifi connection manager would be awesome too.
I have plenty more ideas to make SHR rock even more than it already does but I think these are enough.
--isn't the problem w/ contact recognition partly owing to the fact that some providers transmit country code, others don't, and the some contacts in our adressbooks are saved w/ country code and others without....so i reckon it would be really helpful if there was a settings dialog where you could limit the digits of an incoming number that are used for identifying a contact from your adressbook to the ie last ten digits....cause especially w/ text messages it' s sometimes helpful to see who wrote them...
I´d love to have an Messaging Application for SMS, MMS and email like qtmail (OM2008.12). Last week there have been 10 SMS for me at the same time, which couldn´t be received ´cause the SIM only can save up to 8 SMS ;-/
Also a complete PIM would be grate for extended contact information (an adressbook with email addresses and so on).
And last but not least: I need to see if I´ve lost a call. At the moment I´ve to look into phonelog from time to time to see if somebody called me. A simple Message with lost call will be grate. Or simply don´t close the dialer, so you can see, that there has been a call and who has called.
I've been running shr-unstable as a daily phone for about a week now and have been very impressed with the stability and reliability. There are some things that really need to be addressed for daily use:
* Contacts: I must have the ability to import and export contacts independently of the SIM. I need up-to-date access to my contacts from multiple locations. VCF has proven sufficient for this purpose. It should handle several fields per entry for mobile, home, work and email address at a minimum. For bonus points, synchronise with Google Mail contacts.
* Dialler: The ringtone keeps ringing for several seconds after accepting a call. The ringer should stop and the callers able to hear each other immediately upon the call being answered. Adjusting call volume in-call is desirable, though my experience is that setting speaker volume to maximum is necessary in almost all cases anyway.
* Notifications: Missed calls and new messages should be clearly shown to the user upon unlocking or resuming the handset.
* AUX button: This doesn't seem to be used at all in the default shr-unstable image. I'd probably want this to bring up a profile changer/volume control when focused on the "Home" screen, and something contextual when in applications.
There are some additional features which are not as vital, but would make a huge improvement to my satisfaction with it as a daily phone platform:
* PIM applications: Calendar, tasks and contacts integrated with the dialler, and with sync capability. For my use I'd like Google contacts and calendar sync.
* Simplified volume control: I've been using fso-mixer.py (the successor to pymixer.py) but there are just too many sliders and I have no idea what they're supposed to do.
i would like to have a quick "sanity check", something that can tell me
"hey, the frameworkd program isn't running"
or
"hey, the memory is full"
or
"hey, there are 100 instances of the program xyz running!"
this could help debug the many problems pulled in by each update/upgrade
